Circle Line: anticlockwise <--- Liverpool Street <--- Aldgate ---> Tower Hill ---> clockwise
Metropolitan Line: west <--- Liverpool Street <--- Aldgate terminates here

Terminating trains

All Metropolitan Line trains terminate here, but it is a 50% chance whether you get a cross platform interchange with the Circle Line trains continuing. If you want a Circle Line, you are better off changing at Liverpool Street.

It's also very handy to get an empty train during peak hours, westbound.

Exits

There is only one exit, which comes out on Aldgate High Street.

Architecture and Points of Interest

The building is a shed like structure, with access to the sky at the west side. Platforms project eastwards under the road and buildings.
