Covent Garden is a part of the West End very popular with tourists. Stepping out of Covent Garden Station, you may hear many languages being spoken.

History

Traditionally, Covent Garden was a warehousing district, including print works and other light industry. In the 1980s, Covent Garden became very popular and trendy. Many of the old warehouses were converted into bijou shops and studios, in a similar way to what is happening in Shoreditch 20 years later.

The market was traditionally a fruit and veg market. This market was moved to the south bank and renamed "New Covent Garden Market". There is still a market in the plaza, but this is primarily selling jewellery and crafts, and caters mainly for tourists.
