Main Line
Blackfriars Station is the smallest rail terminal in central London, and offers Thameslink services to Gatwick Airport, Brighton, Sutton, Luton (and Luton Airport Parkway), and Kent Link services (south and south-east).
Notable features
The station is notable itself because its platforms actually extend onto Blackfriars Railway Bridge itself. (This bridge is the second by that name, having been built in 1977 to replace the original, which dated from 1866. The supporting pillars from the original bridge are still standing, and run alongside the current location of the bridge.) If you walk out to the end of the platforms, you will be rewarded with a fine view along the Thames both east and west, including the business buildings of the City of London, the Canary Wharf development, numerous other bridges and an excellent view of the Tate Modern on the south side.
Close to the entrance to the platforms is a section of wall decoration taken from the original station facade, listing names of the European capitals that Blackfriars Station was the main departure point for at that time.
