The Monument. (Photo by IvorW)
This fireball-topped column is a Christopher Wren designed monument commemorating the 1666 Great Fire of London.

Maintained and run by the Corporation of London, for a small admission fee you can climb the 303 steps of the internal staircase to the small, caged-in viewing platform at the top, for which you can expect to receive a certificate. The height of the monument equals the distance from the base to the spot where the fire started.

Admission

As of October 2003. Children under 16 £1.00, adults £2.00.

Access

There are no stopping points on the stairway, and some may find using the stairs challenging.
