A nice local serving good beer, directly opposite West Croydon Station. That's probably all you need to know, to be honest :-)

Almost deserted apart from a cluster of locals round the bar when we visited on a Monday night. The traditional pub atmosphere suffers a bit from loud music and TV screens showing football - possibly an attempt to attract a younger clientele, but not one that was showing any signs of success. Lots of seating and standing room.

The beer was excellent - the first time your reviewer has tasted nice Greene King IPA (1.70 as of May 2004), and they had at least two other real ales on tap.

Toilets were spacious and clean. Hopefully the strange grunting man isn't a permanent feature. Disabled access shouldn't be a problem - the whole pub is at street level.

Untested: food (allegedly Thai served 12-3pm); an alleged non-smoking section round the back; alleged pool tables upstairs. There may be a function room, too.
