Historical version 1 of Notting Hill Gate (view current version)

One of the main roads through Notting Hill, this east-west street is home to an ever-increasing number of restaurants, coffeeshops and fast-food joints, as well as the Coronet Cinema and the Gate Cinema, bookshops, record shops and the [Notting Hill Arts Club]?.

The buildings on the street are half Victorian and half <nowiki>50s/60s</nowiki> concrete monstrosities built during an unfortunate spate of modernism at that time. Notting Hill Gate is considered by many locals to be the boundary of interestingness for the area; progressing northwards up the Portobello Road will take you to Notting Hill proper. To the west the road becomes Holland Park Avenue, and to the east it becomes the Bayswater Road, from where it changes name several times, eventually terminating in the City of London. Going south from here will bring you to Kensington.
