Gate Cinema, W11 3JZ

The Gate is London's oldest cinema still operating, the building having been been converted into a cinema in 1911 from its previous purpose as a house of ill repute.

The cinema is part of the Picturehouses group, and mainly shows European and art-house movies, and the more intellectual offerings from contemporary American film. Quite often they will have a short run of an arty sort of movie after it has finished showing at London's other cinemas. They also do short seasons, late-night shows and other treats. The original interior decor of the cinema is well-preserved and very nice indeed.

Next door to the cinema entrance is a small cafe called the Sandwich Bar. On the next block to the west on the same side of Notting Hill Gate can be found the Coronet Cinema.
