Update: At the moment (20041027) the Copper Grill has been closed for a while as part of the redevelopment of the whole row of shops that it was part of. I don't think it will be returning...but you never know.

If you want something that's a cross between a greasy spoon and school dinners, then this place is for you. Its quite expensive for what it is, but if you're hungry you can go back to the office with a slab of chicken pie sitting in your stomach like a lead weight, and the taste of tinned fruit salad with cream on your tongue.

  • A dodgy cafe. That's it. But it is in the city.

    Food

They have a standard menu consisting of X and chips (where X consists of various meat based things), as well as a selection of daily specials which are fixed from week to week. These include a mixed grill, various pies, curries and spaghetti bolognese.

They also have a selection of tinned fruit server with custard or cream for desserts.

Prices are high for a greasy spoon, but low for the area, at abour 5 for a main and 2.50 for a pud.

    They do take away.

    Drinks

Tea from a large urn, coffee from an urn that looks eerily similar and various cans from the fridge.

    Layout

Diner style with tables and half-height backed benches. Lino and big sugar pots. There are tables downstairs if it looks full.

    Atmosphere

People in suits sitting next to the workmen from the building sites round the corner. People looking confused when they're not seated at a table and have to find their own...
