Zone 1 Station / Streetmap Link / Journey Planner
National Rail
There are two main operators from this station, Virgin Trains and Silverlink. Virgin run services to the North West - the old "London Midland Region", known as the West Coast Main Line (WCML). Destinations include:
- Manchester
- Birmingham
- Liverpool
- Glasgow
- Holyhead
Silverlink run a half hourly service to Watford Junction, which coincides with and runs along the same tracks as the Bakerloo Line between Queen's Park and Harrow And Wealdstone.
Silverlink also run various services to Northampton via Watford Junction, Hemel Hempstead and Milton Keynes. They used to run slower but cheaper services to Birmingham but don't any more - the cheaper alternative are Chiltern Railways from Marylebone.
Tube lines served
Northern Line | (Charing Cross Branch) | North | Mornington Crescent | Euston | Warren Street | South
(Bank Branch) | North | Camden Town | Euston | King's Cross St Pancras | South
Victoria Line | North | King's Cross St Pancras | Euston | Warren Street | South |
Architecture
The modern building dates from 1968. It is generally agreed to be the worst of the central London terminuses, both ugly and unfriendly to use. See article.
Interchanges
There are cross platform interchanges between the Victoria Line and the Bank branch of the Northern Line
Facilities
All those that you would expect at a major rail terminus. Note, there are some cash machines hidden in the interchange with the Silverlink platforms.
Food options are mediocre. Apart from Upper Crust, Burger King and their ilk, a Whistlestop shop by the Silverlink platforms is the best bet on the station. If you've got twenty minutes, you could get a takeaway meal from African Kitchen in Drummond St next door.
Public toilets are situated in the northern corner of the station near platform 1 - entry costs 20p
Nearby
- Euston Square Station - if you need the Circle, Hammersmith and City or Metropolitan lines.
- Bus terminus - outside the concourse
- Head of steam pub - recommended. Just outside, on the left hand side
- Drummond Street, home of several excellent vegetarian Indian Bhel Poori houses
- The UCL Bloomsbury Theatre
- University College London
