West London Line

An overground (National Rail) line running from Clapham Junction in the south to Willesden Junction in the north. Intermediate stops are West Brompton and Kensington Olympia.

Trains are operated by Silverlink and run about every half an hour. The line is linked into the national network and so it also receives trains from [Southern]? ([Watford]? to Gatwick Airport) and an awful lot of freight.

There are currently plans for two new stations, one at Shepherd's Bush to link into the Central Line, and another at [Chelsea Harbour]? called Imperial Wharf and is due to open in May 2006.

The line can be useful as part of a local cross-London journey but is not of much use to connect the Virgin West Coast main line to Birmingham and Scotland since their trains do not stop at Willesden Junction. However, Watford or Harrow to South London is much quicker this way than via the tube.

Connections can be made at Willesden with the Silverlink North London Line.

The West London Line Group represents the interests of passengers on the West London Line and now has a website.
