Manna, NW3 3AJ

Totally vegetarian restaurant with plenty of vegan options, including puddings. Really, really nice food. Pretty much whatever you pick is going to be nice. Go look at the menu.

Situated about 5 minutes walk from the Chalk Farm tube station, Manna is set in a quiet, almost residential area. The atmosphere is relaxed and slightly 'hippie' ( to appease the veggie children of the 60's ) but it is formal enough to make it a suitable venue for a business lunch too.

The menu is excellent, There can be a bit of slowness between ordering and appearance, but if you go out with a relaxed approach to the evening, you'll be rewarded with an unhurried meal in pleasant surroundings. Everything about Manna is 'right', from the excellent starters, the selection of bread served with the meal (no steam baked white sliced here, Ciabatta and granary are more the fare) and the great accompanying dips.

(Note from Kake: the bread is a side order and you have to ask for it specifically... not sure where the dips came from. The bread is fantastic though, especially the chilli bread.)

And the puddings ... well, you could skip the pudding, but they are mouthwateringly good. Again, more likely to be a home-made chocolate mousse rather than a commercial ice-cream.

(Note from Juliet: they had vegan cheesecake! And it was gorgeous.)

Manna has taken great efforts to produce not only food that satisfies the stomach, but food that satisfies the soul too. I left feeling uplifted and well fed.

If you want great food, I'd highly recommend it to both vegetarian and non-vegetarian diners, if you are a committed vegetarian or vegan, you'll enjoy it all the more.

Highly recommended.

(The restaurant is nonsmoking, but you can pop outside for a cig on the pavement.)
