A small modern Indian restaurant in Addiscombe. A very close runner-up to Banana Leaf in terms of food quality (ie excellent). Service leaves more to be desired though - on an admittedly busy Friday night, we were served one too many lassis, one too few Saag Aloos and were kept waiting three quarters of an hour for food, but when nourishment did arrive, it was worth it. The menu covers the usual Indian restaurant staples at about 7 an item [Dec 2004], but also features a large number of specials at about 11 (including rice). The latter come highly recommended. The food is not particularly spicy, except where indicated, and in general the restaurant offers a much larger range of milder foods than is usual. A minority of dishes are vegetarian/vegan.

The interior decor is modern, with bright colours and bold unframed paintings on the walls. There's also a photograph of Darth Vader, signed by David Prowse. Due to narrow aisles, doorways and steps in a couple of places, the restaurant is not particularly suited to disabled customers. But at least the toilets aren't downstairs.

Zafran also do takeaway, but don't deliver.
