Comparable to Googlewhack, our own "search maven" Ivor Williams is offering prizes for those who can make the OpenGuides SuperSearch engine yield precisely two matches for a given search string.

The search must be a simple two word search (AND search).

The prize for each "Superwhack" is a pint of beer1.

Conditions:

  • A maximum of 5 prizes per person can be claimed.
  • The search is simple two word search ( /\w+\s\w+/ for those who know regex speak).
  • Both words must be necessary and sufficient for the search. This excludes the case of, let us say a search for "blah" yields 2 matches, with people submitting "the blah", "of blah" etc. as different entries.
  • To qualify, neither of the two pages matched can be edited by the contestant between the time of launching the competition (the timestamp of version 1 of this page), and the time of claiming.
  • When judging a claim, the state of the site at the time is what applies. (i.e. subsequent amendments and additions to OpenGuides do not affect the claim).
  • Ivor Williams reserves the right to change the rules of the competition at any time, but agrees to honour the rules in place at the time any claim was made. In the event of any dispute, his decision is final.
  • This competition only applies to the London OpenGuides site.

How to claim

Edit this page, and add your Superwhack, including a link to your homenode:

For example:

  • [[Bloggs]] Buffy Pie
  • Add your Superwhack below
  • bob star beer
  • Earle frog road
    • Sorry Earle, this one does not count. A search on "frog" gives the same matches.
  • bob argentinian steak
  • elvum - belgian courage
  • elvum - star steak (a self-referential superwhack)
  • elvum - dulwich thai
  • elvum - crab prawns
  • elvum - glass noodles
  • Billy - turkey rail
  • Billy - Billy Pie...

Note that adding an entry here will increase the number of matches to three. This is expected bahaviour.

Bonus

Ivor Williams also offers a prize1 for any bugs found in the Supersearch. Please report these bugs via RT: see bug reports. Specifically excluded from this are indexing problems which become cured as a result of an index rebuild. Also not counted are additional instances of a bug that has already been reported.

Notes:

1 This includes a pint of any quaffable liquid to a maximum strength of 8% ABV. Or a large glass of wine. Or a measure of spirit.
