The University of London is the collective of most of the colleges in London, although they are very independent. This includes King's College, [LSE]?, UCL, [SOAS]?, IC and probably more. The term "University of London" is fairly useless (apart from it being the degree awarding body for the various colleges), but it does actually provide useful services for the students of the various colleges.
