The Islington Branch, previously Alfredo's and restored by the S&M chain, was used in the filming of part of Quadrophenia, making the cafe a mecca for scooter boys and girls. http://www.classiccafes.co.uk/Best.html |

No, it's not what you think. There are no whips and chains here ;).
S & M café is actually Sausage and Mash Café
There are actually 3 branches, one in Acton, one in Notting Hill and one in Islington. 1

265 High Street, Acton, W3 9BY.
These are my comments on the Acton branch, as that's the one I have visited --IvorW.
First impressions are that one has gone through a time warp, arriving in the late 1960s or early 1970s. OK, it's not Formica tables, but almost. Adding to this impression was the music, of which I approved wholeheartedly (some Small Faces, some Kinks, you get the picture).
Besides sausages and mash, they do a range of breakfasts and lunches. I had their standard all-day breakfast, which was 4.25. Although I know of many establishments nearby which do a cheaper or more voluminous breakfast, when it comes to quality, this was second to none.
The food included a very tasty sausage, a free range egg, wild mushroom and griddled bacon, all of which were definitely up to Borough Market standards. Included in the price was a beverage of your choice.
Although I miss the Indian restaurant that this café has replaced, I wish the new café well, and I will be using it again.
1Wiki note: it should be quite easy for us to cover, knowing where the contributors live :). Perhaps this could become 3 separate pages.
