Historical version 1 of London Stock Exchange (view current version)

Located in the City of London close to the [Bank of England]? and Bank station, the London Stock Exchange is the principal UK market for trading in equities (stocks and shares) and securities (bonds, warrants, etc).

The FTSE indices are based on company share prices listed on the LSE.

LSE abandoned "Open Outcry" trading in favour of all electronic trading in 1998, using SETS (Stock Exchange Trading System) - software that LSE developed in-house.

The London Stock Exchange itself is a concrete building, which has much spare floor space, owing to the removal of the dealing pits. The building mainly houses IT staff and market operations staff, since all the trading is conducted electronically.
