Bakery, hot food takeaway and sandwich shop, near the Holborn end of Gray's Inn Road. The quality seems generally to be pretty high, and the choices on offer are certainly a little out of the ordinary. I'll walk past ten or twelve other sandwich shops at lunchtime, even if I'm in a hurry, to come here and get something nice.

Sandwiches are made with various tasty and interesting breads, such as onion or dill, and include hummous, grilled peppers, cucumber and lettuce (2.60, vegan), roast chilli vegetables, tuna with pickled ginger (good tuna; clearly not out of a can), and falafel in flatbread with salad and minted egg-free mayonnaise (2.75, not labelled vegan, but sounds as though it might be). Salads are around 2.55 and vary from day to day; one example is chickpeas in lime and coriander dressing. Soup is 1.60; I've tried the mushroom and thyme, which was good and mushroomy but like much takeaway soup slightly salty; it also had a bit of a weird greasy aftertaste. [Prices at 2002-05-01]

There are also quiches and a daily special hot dish on offer, as well as a selection of gourmet cakes, pastries and biscuits.
