Version 2 Version 1

Road running between Hyde Park Corner and Kensington Road in the area with the same name. Served by Knightsbridge Station and Hyde Park Corner Station, both on the Piccadilly Line.
Famous road in Brompton (borough of Westminster) which bounds Hyde Park for all of its length. Knightsbridge is really the name of the road running from Hyde Park Corner through Scotch Corner to the Prince of Wales Gate into the park; however it has also given its name to the surrounding areas of Brompton and Belgravia.

Harrods is in the area of Knightsbridge but is actually on [[Brompton
Road]]. Harvey Nichols is on Knightsbridge itself.

Colin Hinson has a transcription of an 1868 text describing Knightsbridge.

The area is extremely affluent, particularly on the Belgravia side.

Historically, the name comes from a legend about a duel between two knights on the bridge here. Today any bridge is non-evident but the ancient River Westbourne still runs under here, now
in tunnel, to feed the Serpentine in Hyde Park.

The area did not become heavily developed until about the mid 1800s, when the exhibition at [[
Locale South Kensington|South Kensington]] sparked a lot of interest, leading to a construction boom in the area.

The road forms part of
the busy A4 leading from the West into the centre. Traffic is heavy (Knightsbridge jam cam).

Knightsbridge is served
by Knightsbridge Station and Hyde Park Corner Station, both of which are on the Piccadilly Line quite close together. Piccadilly Circus is just under 5 minutes away by tube, 5-10 minutes by buses 9, 14, 19 and 22, or about 20-25 minutes' walk.
