In November 2005 the pub was taken over by [[Fuller's]], before this, it was a free house. To their credit, Fuller's have preserved the character of the pub, with its drawings by Bill Tidy, and its collection of railway paraphernalia. The pub has now being renamed to "The Doric Arch". |

The Head of Steam is a real ale pub which appears to be doing fairly well. As a rule, at least three ales will be on at any time, and this can rise to six or more during beer festivals. (They also do some good ciders, apparently. I want to go and test this. --[[Kake]]) |

Also to their credit, Fullers are continuing to sell real ales from other breweries. There is a bank of 5 pumps for Fuller's beers, and another bank of 5 pumps - 4 for guest ales and 1 for Westons cider. The guest ales included Joseph Holt's Bitter (from Manchester), Archers, and a brew from Hopback. |
Beware, though: cellarmanship can be patchy, and it's not unknown for only one in three of the beers to be worth drinking. |

They probably shift a lot of the Holt's, to the passing trade of Mancunians using [[Euston Station]]. This is one of two pubs regularly serving Holt's; the other is the [[Wenlock Arms, N1 7TA|Wenlock Arms]]. |
The pub is located on the concourse by Euston Station, near the east end of the bus station; the main body of the pub is upstairs and overlooks the bus station. About 1/3 of the pub is a non-smoking area (the raised platform at the south end). |

Checked Nov 2005. The pub has a licence till 12:00 every day, but only intend to use this for special occasions. In other words, the pub keeps normal 11 till 11 hours. |

Remember when ordering to ask what the code for the loo is - the toilets are downstairs, and to prevent their being used by undesirables, they are secured with a four-lever push-button combination lock.
