Food

The vegetarian set menu is vegan (no substitutions needed! Amazing!) and costs 7.50 (minimum two people) -- clear vegetable and beancurd soup to start, followed by plain rice, sweet and sour deep-fried potato balls, monks' vegetables, and stirfried vegetables.

The vegetable and beancurd soup makes a very good first impression, nice fresh vegetables in a clear stock, not over-salted. The sweet and sour deep-fried potato balls are really rather nice; an unusual idea for a vegetarian sweet and sour dish that I've not seen anywhere else. Monks' vegetables, not bad; it includes deep-fried tofu with a good texture but not much flavour, and some nice unusual mushrooms, but there's not enough seasoning to really distinguish it from the stir-fried vegetables (mangetout, baby sweetcorn, little mushrooms), which would have made a perfectly good side dish had it not been for the strong similarity to the monks' vegetables.

It's worth coming here to try out that weird sweet and sour thing, though.

Drink

Tsing Tao 2.20/bottle, also Kirin in bottles, Chinese tea.
