The Open Guide to London: the free London guide - Differences between Version 7 and Version 2 of Forum

Version 7 Version 2

I went to the Forum this Friday. I checked for info on the London Open Guide first but couldn't find info on the venue itself or where to meet-up with your mates around the area so here is my guide to that stuff.
Scuse me for adding content before I have it, I have had no good excuse. Please don't set fire to me, I am going to the Forum later this week and I promise I will write it up...

Meeting up before a gig etc...

There are quite a few possibilities between the nearest tube station (Kentish Town) and the Forum. If you are pressed for time and don't mind the kind of pubs you find near train stations, the Assembly is likely to be your meeting place. It's not one of those fancy new-fangled bars you get these days, it's traditional. My pint of lager cost me what I would expect (2.60 if your curious) and the carpets weren't too sticky so I was happy.

As I said, I couldn't find the info I wanted here so my next port of call was my North London mates. I asked Kit-Yi and Helen if they knew anywhere good to meet and they suggested a place called The Vine. Acording to my mates, it's quite a trendy restaurant/bar type place and you can order bar snacks. I guess if you have more time and want posh food before a gig, you could consider The Vine. However, if you are going to a gig at the Forum, that probably isn't you so I suggest a MacDonalds (trun left out the tube and cross over the road).

The Forum as a Venue...

When you get inside the venue, it is unsuprisingly much like any other. It has bare floors and in size, is somewhere between a pub and the Brixton academy. There is a bar on each side at the back of the venue. Beers on tap were Fosters and Kronenburg (I can't remember any others) whilst they also had a glorious selection of canned lager (Red Stripe etc). All the beers were 3.10 but I am sure I got charged 2.80 a couple of times. There is quite a nice sized "mosh-pit" in front of the stage. It is small enough that when you inevitably lose a mate somewhere, you can find them by sending out a small search party. In my opinion, the best place to stand for a bit of space is on the left hand side of the stage (as you look at it) because there is a bottleneck between there and the nearest bar. I guess you are probably best off not taking my word for it and determining for yourself on-the-fly. You could even post you opinion here if you disagree.

Anyway, That is about all I can say unless I visit the venue again and try to get less drunk/write stuff down when I think of it :-)

Enjoy
