The Open Guide to London: the free London guide - Differences between Version 2 and Version 1 of Crabtree Tavern (Hammersmith)

NEW MANAGEMENT & REFURB
Big pub, sofas inside, nice beer garden, reasonable food (mains priced around £5). Food served until 10pm (according to the bar, but the sign outside says 9pm). Like an Islington gastropub but in Fulham, so cheaper and with less real beer choice and the toilets are shoddy. Huge beer garden and close to the river. Miles away from the nearest tube station but buses 74 and 220 are handy. I wouldn't travel to come here, but it's five minutes' walk from my house so I guess I might come again. They do barbecue on weekends in the summer. Beer: London Pride and a guest ale when they haven't run out. Strongbow £2.70/pint (!) Guinness £2.80/pint [Prices as of June 2003] The food prices are more reasonable than the beer prices though.

The Crabtree is a newly refurbished iconic Victorian pub set on the river in Fulham.
Food is things like pesto salmon with new potatoes; sausage and mash; bacon, chicken and cheese brochettes with chips; fish and chips, steak; also wraps, hot ciabatta sandwiches, nachos. The mash in the sausage and mash was very good; home-made with just the right amount of lumpiness. Only two sausages as opposed to the three you get in most places, but it was enough. The sausages were oddly sweet, but since the menu advertises "sausages of the day" we assume they're not always like this.

We have a new website with photos and all the new menus. Please visit http://www.thecrabtreew6.co.uk
The beer garden is concrete, but with huge sun-shades which probably double as rain shades. There are some tables outside the main beer garden next to the Thames wall, but the view of the river is blocked ("shaded") by a large willow tree (I think this is gone, or at least a lot smaller now --[[Kake]]). It is possible to climb over the wall and walk down onto the Thames foreshore here - the only convenient place to do this between Craven Cottage and a slipway just southeast of Hammersmith Bridge.

It has stunning views of the Thames River from its extensive beer garden. Fresh food will be served daily, and there is a fantastic wine menu to choose from. Real ales are important to The Crabtree and so there will be plenty of choice of some of Britains best loved ales.
Being a pub in a quiet residential area, they are strict about closing time. The last orders bell rings at 10:50, the bar closes no later than 11:00, and soon after a member of the barstaff will walk round to remind you to finish your drinks.
