Historical version 8 of Category Beer Gardens (view current version)
Not a garden you grow beer in, but a garden you drink beer in. Generally attached to pubs.
London (and indeed British) beer gardens vary tremendously, from The Anchor Bankside's vast riverside patio to The Hole In The Wall's couple of seats in a shared courtyard. Some pubs don't have a real beer garden but do have a few seats outside on the pavement - we're not counting those as pubs with beer gardens.
Guide Recommendations
- The Windsor Castle in Notting Hill - an overall good pub, it has a nice little enclosed beer garden with its own bar, and patio heaters to take the chill off in the late evenings.
- Ye White Hart in Barnes - the beer garden has a lovely view over the river
- The Anchor Bankside, near London Bridge - the pub as a whole has gone seriously downhill, but the riverside patio is still lovely on a sunny day.
