Formed in 1882 as the Hotspur Football Club, Tottenham Hotspur have gone on to be one of English football's most successful and famous clubs.
They have the distinction of being the only non-league club ever to have won the FA Cup, which they achieved in 1901 when playing in the Southern League; Spurs were the first side to win the league and cup double in the 20th century (1960/61) and the first British club to win a European trophy (the 1963 Cup-Winner's Cup).
Spurs' play in the FA Premier League. Home games are staged at the 36,400-seater White Hart Lane stadium.
