We were here on a Tuesday evening between about 5pm and maybe 9pm. It was pretty quit to start out with and didn't get all that busy later on. There were some people in suits, some people in working clothes, some people who looked as though they'd been there all afternoon. The bar staff were friendly and cheerful.

Drinks

Only one hand-pulled beer ("Tiger"). It tasted a little flat, apparently. Strongbow is 2.60/pint. Also the usual pub beers on draught: Boddingtons, Fosters, Stella, Kroenenburg, Heineken. [Prices as of May 2002]

Food

Food served only until 3:30pm. Main courses are all 5.50 and include cod, chips and salad; cheese and pickle burger; ham, egg and chips; and chicken rogan josh. Baps are 3.50 and choices include houmous and salad, or ham, Philadelphia and pickle. Oh, and they do Marmite-flavoured crisps! (60p) [Prices as of May 2002]

Service and Ambience

We were here on a Tuesday evening between about 5pm and maybe 9pm. It was pretty quiet to start out with and didn't get all that busy later on. There were some people in suits, some people in working clothes, some people who looked as though they'd been there all afternoon. The bar staff were friendly and cheerful.

Layout

The spacious downstairs room is vaguely divided in two by the bar and a small step. One side has benches along the walls, biggish rectangular wooden tables and wooden chairs, plus a reasonably large standing area by the bar. The other side has (I think) lower tables and some sofa-type things.

Facilities

Upstairs function room available for free.
