They first formed in South London, at the [[Woolwich Arsenal]]. This is the reason they have a cannon on their crest, and is why they are known as the Gunners. (Arsenal fans are often called Gooners, amongst other things.) When they moved north to [[Highbury]] they dropped the Woolwich from their name.
