Royal Mile Whiskies

An upmarket off-license near to the British Museum.

They are the London branch of the shop of the same name on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh and in addition to scottish whiskies they have a selection of irish and american ones, as well as a range of wines, other spirits and cigars.

The brands and prices are towards the upper range and if you are looking for a very expensive bottle for some reason, then this place could be what you are looking for (the 500+ bottles beside the till would make a fantastic birthday present for me...).

Prices are generally reasonable for the products, but sometimes seem to be a little higher than you'd expect (especially on the american whiskies). Staff seem to be very knowledgable about their products and are very happy to help with selections.

They have a section to the left of the door, that seems to primarily aimed at tourists, consisting of a good number of miniatures, tasters and selection packs of a variety of spirits (including many scotches) as well as wines and the ever present shortbread.

They stock a small selection of wines from Chateau Musar (a lebanese wine as reccomended by Iain Banks in his book "Raw Spirit") which I haven't seen elsewhere in London.
