Mildreds is a pleasant, little (probably seat about 30-50) vegetarian restaurant in the modern style.

The staff, and clientele, were young and trendy-ish, not enough to be intimidating or off putting however, and the atmosphere was good - a constant low hubbub of chatter bouncing off the hard bare walls and floors.

All menu options are labelled depending on whether they are vegetarian, vegan, wheat free etc and there's a good selection - about 10 starters ranging around 4 pounds 50, the same number of main courses ranging from 6 quid to 10 and then a few puddings. There were about 10 daily specials chalked up on a black board. On the back of the menu was a lengthy selection of drinks - both alcoholic and soft with a selection of health esque drinks such as smoothies and /shudder/ blue-algae drink.

I had the wild mushroom and ale pie with chips and mushy peas with a apple, strawberry and banana smoothie. The smoothie was delicious - just the right blend of tart and sweet. The pie was outstanding - the filling was slightly spicy and done to perfection and the pastry was all encompassing, almost like a filo pasty, and studded with poppy seeds.

The chips were chunky and fluffy and the mushy peas, although looking slightly like they'd been left standing had a good punch of mint (along with a dollop of the stuff on the top).

Other things I was tempted by on the menu include a frijoles fajita, the ubiquitous burger and a casserole of red wine and pulses.

The total for two of us, including 10% optional tip came to 21 quid which considering how full we were afterwards isn't bad at all.
