Hacklabs! What are these things?

The London Hacklabs Collective is a group of people interested in using technology to bring about social change. Open access political spaces used for independent media, the promotion of free/open source software and other emancipatory technologies. They are spaces for the sharing of skills and also places that aim to demystify the haze that often surrounds IT and its applications.

Things we do and want to do:

Free (donation) internet and computer access, Free Software distribution, video and audio editing, using and making radio transmitters, participation in wireless internet projects, provision of computer resources and help to activist events, Independent Media Centres etc.

Hacklabs have been set up at The Freedom bookshop, Angel Alley, 84b Whitechapel High Street, London E1 7QX. The ally is next to the KFC near Aldgate East tube, Whitechapel Art Gallery exit and also at rampART

Open meetings are held every first Sunday of the month 5pm at the The rampART Creative Centre & Social Space in the 1st Floor Reading Room.

The address is 15-17 Rampart Street, London E1 2LA, Nearest tube Shadwell.

Get involved by either coming to a meeting or poping into the labs, consider this an open invite. Check the Hacklab rota for Freedom Hacklab opening times and the next OPEN meeting Agenda; all welcome.
