Small “locals'” pub tucked away off Gray's Inn Road in a quiet area. Come here for the Thai food.

Drinks

London Pride £2.40/pint, Strongbow cider £2.40/pint. [Prices as of June 2003]

Food

Serves Thai food between noon and 6pm. A range of Thai curries, stirfries and noodles dishes all priced at £5 (or £5.50 with prawns). All dishes except one can be made vegetarian. The food is available for takeaway too.

The food is pretty good. The Pad Thai with Prawns comes with six large king prawns with their tails still on. A good balance of prawns, vegetables, noodles, egg and rice and an ample portion.

[Prices as of June 2003]

Service and Ambience

Small, friendly, not crowded. Not full of suits. Background music — somewhat 80s — but not overly loud.

History

CAMRA North London says:

No Real Ale. Was called the Thunderer after 'The Times' newspaper, the offices of which used to be opposite. The Pillar Box was insipired by the proximity of the Mount Pleasant postal sorting office. Formerly Pillar Box, Thunderer.
