\nThe art gallery formerly known as the Tate is now the Tate Britain. Whereas the National Gallery exhibits very historical works and the Tate Modern exhibits modern art, the Britain shows the intervening works by British artists.\nEntrance is free with the occasional collection box persuading you to donate �2. Some special exhibitions cost money.
\nThere is a whole wing dedicated to the works of JMW Turner. The Tate Britain also shows the controversial Turner Prize.
\nThe gallery is in a rather unusual location, on the north bank of the Thames (Millbank) in Pimlico, a much less accessible and residential location than its sibling the Tate Modern. However, a visit to each gallery can be combined with the Tate-to-Tate riverboat service, running every 40 minutes and costing around �4 for adults (with a 1/3 discount for Travelcard holders.
