Pub offers the standard [[JD Wetherspoon/Menu]], served till 10pm. There is some kind of offer where you get two main courses from a small selection for I think 7.69. An email from Wetherspoons head office confirms that the vegan choices on the menu are limited to chips, onion rings, curly fries, and side salad, though possibly other items could be adapted at the discretion of the kitchen staff.

As mentioned above, the cellar bar can be booked for private parties, I think for free if there are over 100 people attending.

The entire bar is non-smoking to comply with legislation.
There is a non-smoking area upstairs, but it's not screened off from the rest of the bar so it still gets somewhat smoky.

Drinks

There are usually 3 or 4 guest ales on, and Wetherspoons have Dry Blackthorn cider rather than Strongbow. They do two or three types of Weston's cider in bottles, too. Prices are reasonable compared with Central London pubs.

Other attractions include jugs of Red Bull cocktails for about 10. The TVR (tequila, vodka and Red Bull) is particularly evil.

Food

Pub offers the standard JD Wetherspoon/Menu, served till 10pm. There is some kind of offer where you get two main courses from a small selection for I think 6.95 (could even be 5.95). An email from Wetherspoons head office confirms that the vegan choices on the menu are limited to chips, onion rings, curly fries, and side salad, though possibly other items could be adapted at the discretion of the kitchen staff.

Service and Ambience

The bar staff are mostly young and don't interact much with the customers, probably because the sheer size and business of the pub means that they simply can't. I believe this is the Wetherspoons eye contact problem. It seems as if all the staff in Wetherspoons pubs are trained in not making eye contact with punters - odd. --IvorW The clientele is mostly people in suits. The pub gets horribly crowded in the couple of hours after work, and quietens down drastically towards the end of the evening. It is probably one of the better bets in the area for meeting up with someone at a busy time, though, just because it is so big and if you hover long enough you'll eventually get a table.

Layout

A large ground-level room with a combination of medium-size round tables with normal chairs, and smaller, taller tables with bar stools. There's a slightly raised area near the front of the pub, which gets slightly less crowded and has less traffic between the door and the bar.

Downstairs is a cellar bar which is also reasonably large. It has a television which they show football on sometimes (and often MTV if there's no football on). This bar is sometimes booked out for private parties.

Facilities

The toilets are downstairs. The ladies' has "interesting" doors on the cubicles (hinged in the middle) but unfortunately the locks are broken on about half of them. There is no central set of sinks; each cubicle has its own sink and hand drier. The taps on these sinks are supposed to start automatically when you put your hands under them, but, again, about half of them don't work. The cubicles with broken doors don't seem to coincide particularly with the cubicles with broken taps.

As mentioned above, the cellar bar can be booked for private parties, I think for free.

There is a non-smoking area upstairs, but it's not screened off from the rest of the bar so it still gets somewhat smoky.

Gatherings

ZZ9 meets here on the third Wednesday of the month. The London Perl Mongers also hold their socials here quite often.
