Zone 3/4 Station / Streetmap Link / Journey Planner

Lines Served

Central Line: west <--- Leyton <--- Leytonstone ---> Snaresbrook ---> east (Epping via Woodford)
---> Wanstead ---> east (Woodford via Hainault)

Exits

Exit to the left for Leytonstone High Road, to the right for Grove Green Road.

Where To Alight

Exits are at the west end of all platforms, so if travelling east sit at the back. (The same is true for Leyton - the station one nearer in to town).

Note that almost everyone else already knows this. If the last two carriages of your Central Line train are already full when you embark you'll probably find they don't get much emptier before Leyton.

Facilities

  • Payphones
  • Interweb terminals
  • Photo booth
  • Newspaper kiosk in ticket hall.
  • Public toilets on the Westbound platform (often closed due to vandalism)

Probably the most important thing about Leytonstone for the Tube traveller is that it is the final station on the Central Line before is splits up into its two branches.

The station is in a tunnel underneath the track itself. This means that there are two exits: one to Church Lane which leads to Leytonstone High Road and the shops, library, church, and so on, and the other to Fairlop Road and Grove Green Road and the more residential "Upper Leytonstone". Each side has its own bus stops, so choose carefully! There is a small car park on the Grove Green Road side, but no parking or stopping space on the High Road side.

Notable features

The tunnel features a number of mosaics of scenes from movies directed by Hitchcock to commemorate Hitchcock's birth at 517 Leytonstone High Road, making this one of the Tube stations with art.
