Lying just north of Leytonstone, Leyton Flats form part of the southern reaches of Epping Forest.

The flats are a mixture of woodland and wild grassland. Unlike the nearby Wanstead Flats there are no mown or formal areas.

A principal feature of the flats are the Hollow Ponds, an artificial but sympathetically landscaped lake. During the summer it is possible to spend a pleasant afternoon boating on the lake. Afterwards, a trip to the Alfred Hitchcock pub is highly recommended.
