La Fromagerie is a wonderful food shop, unfortunately stuck a little in the middle of nowhere transport-wise. It's similar in scope to [Neal's Yard Cheese Shop] (no page yet - will add one asap), but a little more homely and friendly in feel.

The main body of the shop contains all sorts of wonderful items, most of them sourced from small producers in France and Italy, everything from amazing breads and pastries to cold meats, preserves, oils and condiments and teas. It tends to be arranged in a fairly haphazard manner all over the shop, but somehow that just adds to the charm.

They also have a wine expert on hand who imports some amazing things from all over Europe. Their expertise tends to lean slightly towards stronger, sweeter dessert wines.

The cheese is all stored in a small room at the back, and you're always welcome to taste before committing to a purchase. Again, they source from small suppliers, some English, a lot of French. There are all sorts of cheeses, from incredible, clear-veined blue varieties down to the sort of sloppy soft cheese which will make your fridge smell for 3 weeks after you finish eating it.

Amazing stuff.

The shop is a little far from the nearest tube stop, but easily walkable from Arsenal, and you can always jump on a 19 bus.

They now have a second branch, at 2 - 4 Moxon Street, London W1U 4EW. I imagine it's much the same, but I can't vouch for it as I haven't been there.

If your tastes lean more towards Italy, they're a two doors down from Da Mario.
