The Open Guide to London: the free London guide - Differences between Version 12 and Version 7 of Gloucester Road Station

Version 12 Version 7

The track system around this station was changed in 1999, as part of the overhaul of the Circle Line. As a consequence, eastbound District Line and anticlockwise Circle Line share a platform, which is less useful than previously, where there were separate platforms. Westbound trains come in on different platforms for the Circle and District lines. There is cross-platform interchange between the clockwise (westbound) Circle and the eastbound District/Circle.
There is an island platform between the eastbound District/Circle and westbound (clockwise) Circle, making it an easy transfer if you need to (although Earl's Court is probably more useful).

This station has a continuously running art exhibition facing the eastbound District Line platform.

Lines Served

Circle Line: clockwise <--- High Street Kensington <--- Gloucester Road ---> South Kensington ---> east
District Line: west <--- Earl's Court <---
Piccadilly Line: west <--- Earl's Court <--- Gloucester Road ---> South Kensington ---> east

Interchanges

This is only shown as an interchange between the Circle Line and the Piccadilly Line, the reason being that Earl's Court Station and South Kensington Station offer better interchanges with the District Line.

Access to the Piccadilly Line platforms is by lift only; Piccadilly Line trains do not stop here if there is no fire brigade cover.

There is an island platform between the eastbound District/Circle and westbound (clockwise) Circle, making it an easy transfer if you need to (although Earl's Court is probably more useful).

Where To Alight

 • Piccadilly Westbound: Front of train
 • Piccadilly Eastbound: Rear of train
 • District & Circle Eastbound: Middle of train
 • District & Circle Westbound: Middle of train

Architecture and Points of Interest

This station has a continuously running art exhibition facing the District Line platforms.
