The Crown
Easy to get to and nice and quiet. Decent food and nice cold beer. Has recently turned into a gastro pub and often contains well-off trendies with babies, but apart from that it's really nice. Very cosy interior with leather sofas and plenty of space. No loud music.
Has a resident cat called "Guinness". a jet black with a tuft of white under its chin. Likes to sit on sofas and be stroked by the customers.
Drinks
The Crown serves a selection of Fullers beers (Pride, Winter Warmer/Summer Ale, etc.) It also has guest ales. At the time of writing (2003-11-16) they've got the wonderful 1884 on the pumps.
They also have the normal other selection: Guinness. Stella. Kronenburg....
Layout
Level access, nice leather sofas, large wooden bar in the centre of the room. The whole pub is in fact one room (with a little side non-smoking area next to the kitchen) that's about 20/40 ft. There is a nice outdoor bit at the front with no traffic and 3 or 4 benches. There's 802.11b coverage outside (though I doubt it's run by the pub.) There's a tiny 14" TV located in the corner of the bar that they rarely turn on - in fact the only time I can remember it being on was for the '03 Rugby World cup, which attracted about seven or eight people early in the morning to watch it.
Food
Very nice food, but quite pricey. I've had christmas meals in here that have been wonderful. I've also had not so impressive sausage and mash. It's all terribly terribly fancy though - no chance of a cheap snack.
