One of two pubs in london to have been in all editions of the Good Beer Guide.

Drinks

Beer was tasty and normal Young's prices. They had the full range on.

Food

Food was also tasty if not a touch basic (fried or microwaved it would seem). The burger was homemade and very tasty, with excellent fried onions. Kake had issues with nachos and chilli - the chilli was underneath the tortilla chips, which is absurd, the guacamole had cream in, and the salsa was vinegary red goo from a jar. The large bowl of chips at 1.85 [Dec 2004] was very good and cheapish. (I didn't think they were particularly good chips, just adequate. --Kake. I beg to differ - they were hot, crunchy and IMHO excellent. --Martin.) Food is served until 21:00

If you try and lock your bike up next to the Irish Guards barracks opposite the pub then they shout at you. The man with his rifle ready to shoot you makes this quite effective. I reccomend locking bikes on the pub side of the street which the shouty rifle man said was fine.

Layout

Notable for the corridor behind the bar which can be used for drinking in. This is useful in the early evening when the pubs gets quite busy with Civil Servants from the surrounding buildings before they head off home via Victoria and Waterloo. Things quieten down by about 20:00.

Facilities

The ladies toilet is up too many flights of a narrow, winding staircase. There's only one cubicle, and the sink is in there too. I got attacked by the soap dispenser. The mens toilet is on the ground floor and is adequate, with shiny copper pipes.
