Wiki Discussion/Post Codes Revisited

Postcodes

Following the replacement of the Royal Mail's postcode lookup engine with Bolloxia's mound of excrement, I have had difficulty looking up stuff for new pages I have been adding. --IvorW

I would like to propose that for pubs, restaurants, markets, etc. we use the postal district instead of the full post code (IvorW). This saves having to guess or invent post codes for venues on long streets. And it should be sufficient for distinguishing common pub names across London.

Could do, but a bit of googling in conjunction with yell.com and the information that it _is_ actually possible to get out of the postcode finder, have done me fine so far. I'm not convinced that _should_ is good enough; then again, we can always rename the pages if a conflict does occur. --Kake

Maps

Also, we could do with a map or 3 maps which show the relationship between postal districts, London boroughs and locales.

Idea: (IvorW) I'm not a cartographer, but I could imagine that if we had a (copyright freely available, in Wiki spirit) map of London on the site, we could have markers showing places of interest on the Guide, and also dispense with links to streetmap.co.uk. This might make a nice project for an undergrad student.
