Photocard

A photocard is required in order to purchase and use a Travelcard that is valid for longer than one day.

Boys have blue photocards. Girls have pink ones.

On the front of the card there is:

Space for a passport-sized photograph (mine has such a photo attached - a fat, baldy bloke in specs; wearing a suit and a ghastly tie) It's supposed to resemble the bearer of the card.

A serial number (mine is S1605, but it's quite an old one, so I won't speculate as to what the format of the number is).

The word "Adult" or "Child" depending on the age of the bearer.

The name of the bearer (mine is done in blue biro and the person who wrote it put a little circle over the 'i' in my surname instead of a dot - I don't know whether this is standard practice or just means the person who did it is a girl, or just likes writing like a girl)

The words "This photocard is valid for use only by the person shown with a ticket bearing the same number"

The words "London Transport isued subject to conditions - see over"

The front of the card has a thin piece of plastic stuck over it, to keep the photo in place and to stop you changing the name that's written underneath it.

On the back of the card are the following words:

London Transport - Conditions

  1. This photocard is for use only by the person whose photograph appears on it.
  1. This photocard must be shown together with any Travelcard, Bus Pass or season ticket bearing the same number. If these conditions are not met, the ticket is not valid.
  1. This photcard is not valid if it is altered or defaced in any way.
