This pub is due a reccie. Earlier this year (2005) the pub was under threat of closure owing to pressures from the landowners to sell up and turn the building into flats :(! I know that CAMRA did have a campaign involving Harringay Council, to block the planning application. I presume this was successful, as the website is reporting that the pub has been doing beer festivals recently. I'd like to know the full story, and I'd also like someone to check the accuracy of our page, re Wi-fi, etc. --IvorW
Despite being quite off the beaten track (with apologies to locals living in Harringey and South Tottenham), the pub is quite worth the journey.
It's a good idea to check the last train times though, and make sure you have enough time to get to the station (as we didn't - IvorW September 2004).
Beer range excellent. 8 hand pumps. Several The Beer range is ever changing with several coming from the Milton Brewery in Cambridge this includes Nero, a very nice dark beer. The Beers that are currently on sale or in the cellar are displayed on their website.
Several Continental Bottled Beers are also served including Duchesse de Bourgogne, Paulaner Dunkel and Val-Dieu (Blond, Brune and Triple).
Hand pumped draught cider available.
Excellent range of single malt whiskies.
Good value food is served 12-2 and 6-8(mon-sat) and Sunday lunchtime (12-3) The Food served includes toasted sandwiches, Burgers and Baked Potatoes. A range of curries are served on Friday evenings. Chips are not served.
One of the licensees is on the London.pm list. He has set up wireless internet access for those who want/need it.
This is a large, cavernous pub, all on the level. Apparently there is some kind of stage or function room behind the pub, but this wasn't investigated.
