London Bridge
London Bridge crosses the River Thames from the City of London on the north side to Southwark on the south side.
History
London Bridge has existed, in one form or another, since 43 AD.
In 1962, the preceding version of the bridge was unable to cope with the traffic, and was auctioned off by the Government. It was won by an American oil millionaire, who had it disassembled piece by piece, shipped to California and trucked to Lake Havasu, Arizona, where it was reconstructed (photo). It is widely thought that the new owner thought he was buying Tower Bridge - a common mistake.
