Hole In The Wall, SE1 8SQ
Dingy "drinkers" pub, located in a railway arch close to Waterloo station.
Two bars: the smaller one at the front is slightly more comfortable, with cushioned seats and stools; the larger back bar is more basically furnished, but features a big screen projector TV which shows live soccer and rugby matches. Both get very smoky when busy and there is little ventilation, so not good for asthmatics or tobacco-phobes.
The place is often crowded on weeknights with people getting a few pints in before the evening commute. It thins out by 8 o'clock though and getting a table is not too troublesome.
However it is best avoided when England are playing at Twickenham - it is heaving with pissed-up rugger buggers (mind you, if pissed-up rugger buggers are your thing . . . ).
The main saving grace of the Hole is the wide selection of real ales, some of which are well enough kept to be worth drinking.
There is food available.
