C&R Cafe
A small restaurant/cafe tucked away down a little laneway and generally packed with Malaysian and Singaporean students. Serving reasonably priced food from the Malay peninsula, it is incredibly busy on Friday and Saturday nights, but service is quick and efficient so you won't have to wait in the laneway for long.

In my experience, this place does the best laksa in London. For the uninitiated, laksa is Malaysia and Singapore's version of the full meal in a bowl "noodle soup with lots of what's readily available". The invariants tend to be rice noodles, salty shrimp paste, chilli, coconut milk and bean sprouts. The rest is up to the chef.

Other dishes are, of course, available, including various Chinese and Thai dishes and Malaysian curries. The roti chenai (flaky flat bread served with chilli/coconut sauce) is excellent.

Prices are reasonable. Beers (Tiger and Asahi) £2.50, laksa £5.00 and other main dishes similarly priced.
