One of the [disused Tube stations]?, built to (unsurprisingly) serve The British Museum, and closed in 1933 due to lack of use. See British Museum station photos from the Abandoned Tube Stations photo gallery.
Apparently, the entrance was at the apex of [New Oxford Street]? and High Holborn, where the Nationwide Building Society is now.
