Arsenal Football Club

One of the best football teams in the UK, alas, and subject of the novel Fever Pitch.

They first formed in South London, at the [Woolwich Arsenal]?. This is the reason they have a cannon on their crest, and is why they are known as the Gunners (Arsenal fans are often called Gooners, amongst other things). When they moved north to [Highbury]? they dropped the Woolwich from their name. They'll be on the move again soon, but not as far this time: their new home will be Ashburton Grove, the new stadium at which is visible from [Tom A]'s bathroom window; he ought to provide a photo to prove it.

Arsenal Station on the Piccadilly line is named after the club; it's nowhere near anything that was ever actually an arsenal. There's no sign that the station will be renamed when the football club moves. Before the club turned up, it was called Gillespie Road - this is still written in tiles on the platform walls, much to the confusion of travellers.
