hiyas,

i've been looking at earle's prototype of embedded geo metadata in RDF in
headers of pages - that looks great. he also showed me a mail from Kake
talking about locator plugins, that looked v.promising!

i did a similar service for my web API recently - for each location URI
eg http://space.frot.org/london/a_space/Muswel_Hill

you can add queries
http://space.frot.org/london/a_space/Muswell_Hill?nearest_dist=5
(places within distance in miles) or ?nearest_num=5 (5 nearest places) and
contrain either of these by type e.g. ?nearest_type=Pub

i used Geo::Distance for that, it works quite fast and well but the API
seems rather unstable...

re glomming metadata / postcode-lat/long conversion ... i am still
cheerfully using Streetmap.pm with default useragent string etc... but not
for bulk converts, only very occasional lookup.
i did a scrape of grubstreet pubs and bulk convert of postcode data about
3 months ago and that data can be cacess here -
http://space.frot.org/london/list_spaces/?type=Pub
if that is of any use.... :)

good luck with it all such progress
