Ealing Farmers Market
- Leeland Road, West Ealing (map of this place)
- 7am to 1.30pm every Saturday
A farmers market that takes place every Saturday in a small sidestreet in West Ealing. Nearest train station is [West Ealing]? and West Ealing Broadway is served by [Bus Route E3]?, [Bus Route E8]?, Bus Route 207, [Bus Route 607]? and [Bus Route 83]?.
There used to be a banner on the corner of Northfields Avenue and West Ealing Broadway that advertised the market and claimed that it was "The Largest Open Air Street Farmers Market in the UK" or something similar. This is slightly misleading even if it is true.
The market consists of about 10 stalls, although the exact makeup of the market varies from week to week, with fish, cheese, bread, cakes, fruit and veg, and a variety of meat stands. Most stands are regulars, but not all are there all the time.
Some stands that I remember (Billy):
- Food Fore Thought (normally on the end on the left when walking up from the broadway) - run by a very friendly guy who has many stories about running his pig and sheep farm. The animals roam free in some woods and a good acreage of land that used to be a monastery until Henry VIII's time - the monks' herb garden has now spread and the animals graze on herby meadows.
- Grasmere Farm (normally at the far end of the road) - these guys sell a variety of pork cuts, as well as cooking up sausages which they serve up in buns with onions and a selection of homemade sauces.
